Old riders know that motorcycles travel fast and are often limited by terrain and traffic conditions. The driver must brake at any time to slow down or stop the vehicle according to road conditions. Braking is a basic but demanding technical action for motorcyclists. Mastering various braking methods is very important to ensure safety.

The braking methods of motorcycles are generally divided into the following three types:

First, front and rear brakes

When the vehicle needs to slow down while driving, hold the clutch handle while returning the accelerator, then simultaneously depress the foot brake pedal and hold the front brake lever. If the rear wheel is dragging the tire, you can lift the foot brake pedal a little, and then step on it again to prevent the dragging tire from being too long and affecting the stability of the vehicle. At the same time, experience has shown that the braking effect is the best when the rear wheel seems to rotate instead of rotating. The front wheel is a guide wheel, the front wheel is completely locked, the resistance is too large, and the control of the direction is very difficult. However, the role of the front brake should still be emphasized and paid attention to. Develop the habit of using the front and rear brakes at the same time under normal circumstances. Only in this way can the braking efficiency be improved and the stability of the braking process be ensured.

In addition, during the braking process, the two arms should strongly support the steering handle, and the teng joint and the two arms should clamp the fuel tank to prevent the body position from moving forward due to inertia, which will affect the steering.

Second, engine braking

Engine braking is when the vehicle is driving fast, and the high gear is quickly forced to change to a speed that does not match the speed of the vehicle. In low gears, the drag force inside the engine is used to force the vehicle down. The operation method is: close the accelerator, hold the clutch handle, shift to a lower gear, and quickly release the clutch handle (vehicles with automatic separation devices can shift directly without holding the clutch handle), The speed of the rear wheel is forced to suddenly decrease, and even if necessary, it can be gradually reduced to the first gear without releasing the clutch handle.

When using the engine brake, the action should be fast and flexo. Otherwise, it is easy to change the transmission gear. This braking method is rarely used alone except in conjunction with the brake. It is only forced to be used alone when the front and rear brakes fail. Or use it when driving on sandy and gravel roads on slippery roads such as muddy, swampy areas, and ice and snow; or when going downhill, in order to ensure driving safety, use the traction force of the engine to reduce the downhill speed.

III. Combined braking

The so-called combined braking is a braking method that combines the two braking methods of brake braking and engine braking at the same time . That is, while using the front and rear brakes, quickly reduce the gear, further improve the braking efficiency and ensure the stability of the braking process. The operation method is: quickly close the accelerator, hold the clutch handle, use the front and rear brakes to brake, and quickly change to a low gear to force the vehicle to quickly reduce or stop.

When using combined braking, in principle, the brake and the engine are required to be used at the same time. However, when the speed of the brake is too high and is close to the maximum speed of the driving gear, it is allowed to close the accelerator first, without holding the clutch handle, so that the front and rear brakes can brake to reduce the speed of the vehicle, so that the difference will not be too large and affect the stability of the braking. The engine loss is too large, but the two must be connected tightly to give full play to the drag effect inside the engine and achieve the purpose of rapid braking.

Due to the rapid and smooth deceleration of combined braking, the braking distance is short. Therefore, it is widely used in motorcycle driving.
