How to save yourself in a swamp

Whether in the highlands or lowlands, there will be dangerous swamps, and if you accidentally fall in, you may die. The way to survive is the same as when you are trapped in quicksand: do not struggle, you should take a supine position, maximize the contact area between your body and the quagmire, and slowly swim to a safe area to escape.

How to Identify a Dangerous Mire

· Mire is usually found in swamps or wet, mushy wilderness areas. When you see a black flat with no grass, you have to be even more careful.

·At the same time, keep an eye out for cyan sphagnum swamps. Sometimes sphagnum moss covers the muddy surface like a carpet, which is the most dangerous trap.

·If you have to walk through muddy places, you should walk along high ground with trees, or step on heather grass, because trees and heather grow on hard ground. If you are not sure which way to go, you can throw a few large rocks forward to test whether the ground is firm; or stomp your feet hard, if the ground vibrates, it is likely to be a quagmire and you should take a detour.

Self-rescue in a swamp

If you are stuck in a swamp, you can use the self-rescue method in quicksand to rescue yourself. The method is exactly the same.

How to sustain life in swamps

In the vast swamps, the biggest threat is wet and cold weather. If your clothes get wet and exposed to the cold wind, they can easily freeze.

·You should seek shelter for animals as soon as possible, such as woods, bushes, caves, rocks, embankment rocks, etc. Sheep pens and cowsheds on swamps are also good places to shelter from the wind.

· Collect rainwater or melt snow and ice for drinking water. But in heavy rain, snow or fog, don’t venture outside unless necessary. Wait until the weather improves before walking to a nearby safe place.
