How to maintain the spark plug
1. The air filter should be cleaned regularly to prevent dust from entering and burning with the mixture, which can prevent the spark plug from corroding.
2. The owner can also remove the spark plug by himself to clean the dirt and carbon deposits on the ignition head. In particular, when disassembling and assembling the spark plug, pay attention not to let dust enter the cylinder when the spark plug is in and out, and clean up the surroundings before disassembling the spark plug.
3. If there is oil in the cylinder, the piston ring or other parts should be replaced in time to avoid electrode short circuit caused by carbon deposition on the spark plug.
4. Fuel oil is also closely related to the life of the spark plug. Therefore, car owners must pay attention when refueling, and should not be greedy to add oil with quality problems cheaply.
Spark plug maintenance taboo
1. Avoid long-term unclean carbon deposition
Reason: When the spark plug is in use, the electrodes and skirt insulators will have normal carbon deposits. If these carbon deposits are not cleaned for a long time, they will accumulate more and more, and eventually lead to electrode leakage or even no flashover.
Note: Therefore, the carbon deposits should be removed regularly (generally 3000 kilometers to 5000 kilometers), and do not wait until the spark plugs are not working before cleaning.
2. Avoid long-term use
Reason: There are many types of spark plugs, but they all have their own economic life. It is beneficial to the power and economy of the engine, and in severe cases, the engine cannot work normally.
Note: Know the economic mission of your car’s spark plugs and replace them regularly.
3. Avoid descaling at will
Reason: When spraying silver powder on the engine or performing other maintenance, do not pay attention to the cleanliness of the spark plug surface, resulting in the spark plug due to The exterior is dirty and leaks electricity.
Note: When cleaning the surface, it is not convenient and quick to use sandpaper, metal sheets, etc. to remove scale, but immerse the spark plug in gasoline and remove it with a brush to ensure that the ceramic body on the surface of the spark plug is not damaged. .
4. Avoid burning
Reason: When the spark plug is burned with fire, the temperature is difficult to control. It is easy to burn the skirt insulator, causing the spark plug to leak, and the small cracks generated after the fire are often difficult to find, which brings great trouble to troubleshooting.
Note: The correct treatment method for carbon deposits and oil stains on the spark plug: one is to clean it with special equipment, which will have a good effect; the other is to clean the spark plug by soaking it in alcohol or gasoline. Time, when the carbon deposits are softened, use a brush to clean and dry.
5. Avoid hot and cold.
Reason: In addition to different shapes and sizes, spark plugs are also divided into cold, medium and hot types three. Generally, engines with high compression ratio and high speed should use cold type spark plugs; while engines with low compression ratio and low speed should use hot type spark plugs, and there are medium-sized spark plugs in between.
Note: The selection of spark plugs for new or overhauled engines and old engines may vary according to actual conditions.
6. Avoid misdiagnosis
Reason: When replacing a new spark plug or suspecting that it is faulty, it should be checked after the car has been running normally for a period of time. Stop the ignition and remove the spark plug to observe the electrode color characteristics. There are the following situations:
First, the center electrode is reddish-brown, and the side electrodes and surrounding areas are blue-gray, which is suitable for the selection of the spark plug;
Second, there is ablation or melting between the electrodes, and the skirt and insulator are in a burning white state, indicating that the spark plug is overheated;
Third, there are black stripes between the electrodes and the skirt of the insulator. Indicates that the spark plug has leaked.
Note: If the spark plug is improperly selected or leaks, the appropriate spark plug should be re-selected.
7. Do not install too tight
Reason: The spark plug must be installed with the specified torque. When installing with a special tool (ie, spark plug sleeve), it is generally not exceeded, but if the force is too large, too violent or installed with a Torx wrench, it will often damage the porcelain core of the spark plug or make the screw slip and the expansion groove break, resulting in the spark plug. Scrap it; but do not install it too loosely, otherwise it will cause the engine to work abnormally.
