Canon Printer: How to Clear the Ink Cartridge

  1. Press and hold the power button, then connect the printer to the power supply. Press the “Stop/Reset” button twice to enter the “SFP TEST MODE.”
  2. Press the “+” sign to select “4 EEPROM DUMP & INFO,” then press the “Color” button. The printer will run for a few minutes and print a list.
  3. Press the power button to shut down and restart the machine. After the self-check, the printer may still show that the ink is not recognized or is low, but this does not affect usage.

Alternative Method:

  1. With the printer off, press and hold the “Stop/Reset” button, then press the “Power” button to start the printer.
  2. While holding the “Power” button, release the “Stop/Reset” button, and press the “Stop/Reset” button twice to enter maintenance mode.
  3. Wait until the LCD displays “0,” then press the “Stop/Reset” button four times.
  4. Press the “Power” button twice to save the settings.

HP Printer Ink Cartridges:

  1. Gently peel off the label on the ink cartridge (don’t tear it, as you’ll need to stick it back) to reveal the refill holes.
  2. There are usually 5 small holes under the label. Shine a light to identify the ones with ink marks, as these are the refill holes.
  3. Add 4-5 mL of ink to the black ink cartridge and about 3 mL to each color section of the color cartridge. If it’s hard to distinguish the colors, use a toothpick to find the red, blue, and yellow holes. Some ink cartridges have only 1 hole for black and 3 for color. In this case, reduce the ink amount to 3 mL for black and 2 mL for each color.

How to Reset a Printer

There are two ways to reset a printer: manual reset and software reset.

1. Manual Reset

Manual resetting is essential for completing a full software reset; otherwise, the printer may crash.

Steps:

  1. Power off the printer and unplug the power cord.
  2. Press and hold the power button while plugging in the power cord (the power light should turn on).
  3. Press the feed button 4 times while holding the power button. The power light will alternate between yellow and green.
  4. Release the power button. Once the machine starts, the power light will go out.
  5. Reboot the printer and reconnect it to your computer.

2. Software Reset

To complete the reset process, use software designed for printer maintenance. Be cautious when downloading software from the internet—smaller files (under 1 MB) may not work effectively.

Steps:

  1. Open the maintenance software and select the USB port corresponding to the printer under the “USB PORT” section.
  2. Click the I255 button under “SET DESTINATION.” Check “CLEANING” and “EEPROM CLEAR,” then click the “TEST PATTERN 2” button. The printer’s power light will flash, indicating it’s resetting. Once the light stops flashing, restart the printer.
  3. Press the “READ SERIAL NUMBER” button. This step ensures the reset is saved, preventing the need for manual resetting each time the printer is turned on.

What to Do When the Ink Collector Is Full

  1. Turn off the printer and remove the black sponge at the bottom.
  2. Rinse the sponge under water, press it to remove moisture, and let it dry.
  3. Once dry, place it back in the printer.

After this, the printer’s alarm will typically clear. If the alarm persists, it can usually be ignored. Alternatively, you can leave the printer in a well-ventilated area for a few days to allow the waste ink to evaporate, which should also resolve the alarm.
