[Pure-tone audiometry notes] Precautions before pure-tone audiometry preparations for pure-tone audiometry
1, Carefully check the instrument and calibrate it
The testing equipment for pure tone audiometry is an audiometer, and as a testing instrument, the calibration of its accuracy is particularly important. In general, an accurate calibration is required to a formal institution every year.
Dispensers working in the fitting center can perform simple subjective calibration and inspection after going to work every day and before the arrival of the user.
In people with normal hearing, the results of pure tone audiometry are reproducible in a short period of time. That is to say, within two or three consecutive days, the hearing test results should be stable.
Therefore, the dispensers can cooperate with each other to test a set of pure-tone hearing data, and see if the difference between the test results and the previous day’s test results is more than 5 decibels. If not, the basic judgment of the instrument is accurate; If it exceeds 5 decibels, the accuracy of the instrument is doubted to a certain extent, and professional calibration is required when necessary.
In addition, it is very important to check the working condition of each part of the instrument. It is necessary to check whether the basic sound-giving buttons or knobs work normally; whether the sound-giving indicator and transponder indicator reflect normal; check whether the connection between the air-bone conduction earphone and the audiometer is in poor contact.
2. Otoscopy
Before doing pure tone audiometry, an otoscope is required to check the condition of the external auditory canal. Some users have a lot of ear cerumen blocking the external auditory canal, and the result of the check at this time may be a high threshold.
Therefore, it is necessary to check the external auditory canal before pure tone audiometry. If there is a blockage of cerumen, the external auditory canal needs to be cleaned before hearing testing.
Electrical otoscope to check the external auditory canal to check whether there is cerumen, and also need to pay attention to whether there is effusion of middle ear inflammation. If there is otitis media, it is recommended that he wait for the inflammation to be controlled next time before fitting hearing aids. The presence of inflammatory fluid can also lead to errors in test results.
3. Explain the test requirements
Explain to the user what the test needs to cooperate with , you need to pay attention to a few key points:
First of all, make it clear that the sound is given to one side first, and then to the other side, not both ears at the same time;
Second, inform the possible What is the sound you get? If necessary, simulate the sound of pure tone and warble tone (you can also directly use the air conduction earphone to give a sufficient intensity to the sound intensity above the threshold). When masking is required, it is also necessary to emphasize the difference between the signal sound that needs to be heard and the masking sound;
Next, it is necessary to emphasize that the user should listen carefully, even if it is a “very small” sound, but also to give a response (can be matched with The action of pressing the transponder or the action of raising the hand);
Finally, before wearing the headset, you need to inform that the left or right ear is tested first (in principle, the ear is tested first, if the user feels If the hearing of both ears is similar, the inertial ear is tested), and explain that if there is any uncomfortable situation during the test, you can raise your hand to signal.
4. Wear the headset correctly
Air conduction headset: the left and right ear of the headset are in the correct direction, red corresponds to the right ear, blue Corresponds to the left ear. The sound outlet of the earphone corresponds to the external auditory canal opening. Do not press the auricle or block the external auditory canal opening.
Bone conduction earphones: The bone conduction vibrator needs to be placed on the flat surface of the mastoid, and it is required not to touch the auricle or press the hair. After wearing the bone conduction headset, ask the user to turn the head slightly to see if it slides.
