What is sledding

The sled originated in northern Europe, also known as the Nordic sled. On February 12, 1883, the Swiss Peter Minsch and the Australian George Robertson teamed up for a ‘great international bobsleigh race’. They crossed the 4 km in Davos, Switzerland in 9 minutes and 15 seconds. the track. Subsequently, the movement quickly emerged in Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Italy and the United States. In 1887, Mattis, a mechanical expert in the St. Moritz region of Switzerland, designed and produced the world’s first racing bobsleigh. Since the 1950s, with the rise of the luge, the sled has been gradually phased out. When the sled slides down, the athlete lies on the sled with his head forward, and uses the cleats installed in the front of the special leather boots to control the movement direction or braking of the sled. It was only listed as a Winter Olympic event in 1928 and 1948. In the current sled race, the speed of the runners can reach 140 kilometers per hour or more, and the centrifugal force exceeds 5G.

Luge Race Rules

Seat Weight Not Allowed 20kg, two-seater is not allowed to exceed 22kg. The competition is divided into three categories: men’s single-seat, men’s double-seat, and women’s single-seat. The competition facilities are trough-shaped slides built on the basis of concrete or wood. The width of the road is 1.30 to 1.50 meters, and the retaining walls on both sides of the slide need to be iced. The length of the competition line is 1000-1400 meters for men and 800-1200 meters for women. There are 11 to 18 curves in the whole process, and the radius of the curves is 8 meters. The average slope of the slide is the same for men and women, ranging from 4?? to 10??. The height difference between the starting point and the ending point is 70 to 130 meters. During the competition, the athlete sits on the sled, pushes back with both hands on the starting rail to make the sled move forward, lies on the sled while sliding, pulls the sled belt

with one hand and uses the body to get up and down, and changes the posture of the shoulders and legs to control the sled. Make a quick glide down the ice track. When reaching the finish, the athlete must sit on the sled, otherwise the result will not be counted. Single-seat skating 4 times, the competition period is two days; double-seat skating 2 times, the competition period is one day. The one with less time wins. In the event of a tie, the one with the best results in each downhill run shall be the winner. The order of departure is determined by lottery!

Sleigh Race Rules

The length of a 2-seater luge must not exceed 2.70 meters. The width is 0.67 meters, the width of the skid plate is 8 mm; the 4-seater luge is 3.80 meters long and 0.67 meters wide, and the minimum width of the skid plate is 12 mm. The total weight of the 2-seater bobsleigh race shall not exceed 375kg, and the total weight of the 4-seater bobsleigh shall not exceed 630kg. If the weight is insufficient, other weights can be brought to make up. The total length of the slide is 1435 meters, with an average gradient of 4??30?? and a maximum gradient of 8??30??. The radius of the curve part must be more than 20 meters, and the parapet wall of the slide must not be less than 50 cm. The competition is divided into two-seater and four-seater. Each race is skating 4 times, and the result is calculated based on the cumulative time of the 4 races, and the one with the least time will be ranked first. When the total time of the two teams is equal, the team with the least time at any one time wins!

The competition is held twice a day over two days. The starting order for the first round will be determined by drawing lots. Starting from the second round, the starting order starts from the last person in the previous round, and then goes down in sequence. Before departure, the sled is 15 meters away from the starting line. After the start signal is issued, the athletes will push the sled by hand to start running at the starting point, and then jump into the seat. The helmsman jumps into the car first to take the helm and adjust the ideal sliding line. The second and third team members continue to push the sled and jump into the seat. inside the sled before reaching maximum speed. The brakeman finally jumps in to take charge of the braking. All 4 team members must be seated within about 6 seconds. During the race, the three runners kept their heads as close as possible, and all the runners leaned over the corners. Athletes must be in their seats when they reach the finish line, otherwise the result will be invalid. The bobsleigh can reach a maximum speed of 135 km/h and a top speed of 150 km/h!
