At the beginning of climbing, most people like to weigh the weight of each kind of equipment, and arrange the position of the package according to their volume, and gradually develop a feeling. The key to packaging is to understand the equipment (volume, shape, weight), reasonable layout and minimum individual volume. Achieving the smallest individual size can be selected at the time of purchase of the equipment, and can also be controlled when the equipment is folded. For example, someone can use a cooker whose appearance is just a cylinder with a diameter of 12 cm and a height of 13 cm, but inside it is installed a gas tank and a stove, as well as a scouring pad and a lighter. This is achieved only after considering the purchase of equipment. The following is the backpack of the old ALICE – talk about how to pack it in order from top to bottom.
1. How to install the tent:
We divide the tent into three parts: the account (the general term for the inner and outer tents), the tent poles, and the ground nails . When buying a tent, these three parts are sold together, but they cannot be put in the package as they are, because the long tent makes the remaining space in the package very narrow, and it is not easy to fill other items. And it’s not easy to distribute weight.
The way we recommend is to fold the account like a quilt into a cuboid, the length and width of which are the same as the backpack or slightly larger, and tighten it with a flat rope, and the ground nails are also clamped in the account (Because the ground nail has a protective cover, it will not damage the account). It is recommended to put the folded account on the top layer of the backpack, that is to say, when the backpack is opened, the first is the tent. This is more in line with the order of camping. We often set up tents at the camp before doing other things, and when we leave the camp, we first pack up the things in the tent and then fold the tent. I often see people (including myself in the past) who scatter things all over the ground and then set up (close) tents, which not only makes people feel messy, but also wets a lot of materials when it rains and snows. You may ask: Will putting the tent on the top will affect the access to other items? It will be a hindrance to some extent, but because the account is harvested as a whole, it is not difficult to pick up, and you will get used to it after you get used to it.
Place the poles along the side of the backpack near the back (at this time, the compartments of the backpack should be relaxed so that the poles can be inserted into the bottom of the backpack). The tent poles can also be hung on both sides of the backpack, but it is better to put them in the backpack when walking in the jungle, which is mainly to better protect the tent poles.
2. Packing method of loose items:
Loose items have different volume, weight and texture, so the loading method is also different . For soft-textured items (such as hats, gloves, etc.), we recommend filling the gaps between large, hard, tangible items (such as pot sets, water bottles, etc.), and for hard-textured, irregular-shaped small items (such as headlamps , stove head, etc.), we recommend putting it in a pot, lunch box and other containers, which is convenient for filling and can effectively protect these small items. Of course, whether your headlamp can be put into the lunch box, and the stove head can be put into the sleeve. The pot is fully selected when you buy it. Small items that are readily available should be placed on the second level??under the tent, often on the same level as the food.
3. Packaging of water and food:
The packaging of food is very similar to that of loose items, and the location is on the same level, so it is not here Say more. As for water, it tends to be the heaviest of all items, and its placement is directly related to the pack’s center of gravity, which in turn affects the entire journey. But everyone’s weight-bearing capacity is different, and their comfort is also different, just like some people put heavy objects on their heads, while others use a cloth strip on their foreheads… But according to our preferences, we are willing to put water ( Generally three liters) is placed in the middle of the backpack, that is, the third layer, which makes the center of gravity of the entire backpack on the upper side of the middle, which will have the best comfort (personal experience). For containers containing water, we recommend using a square cross-section, which reduces the volume occupied by the container and also reduces gaps.
4. Placement of clothing and sleeping bags
:
Clothes, especially those for winter travel, occupy almost the same volume as sleeping bags, such as fleece and down jackets All have good compression, but we do not recommend the use of compression bags, which will cause great difficulty in picking up a single piece of clothing. The way we advocate is to put the clothes on the lower layer of the backpack and on the top of the sleeping bag (the fourth layer). In this way, the weight of the first, second and third layers of items can be used to compress the space occupied by the clothes as much as possible, and it can be conveniently taken from the bottom compartment when needed. The sleeping bag is the fifth layer. It is recommended to use a compression bag, which can not only reduce the volume and facilitate access, but also compress the changed clothes together.
