1. What to do if the ventilator mask leaks
When the ventilator is first used, the ventilator nose mask often leaks due to the patient’s incompatibility or various reasons gas situation. Leaks from ventilator nasal masks are a common problem encountered when using a ventilator to treat sleep apnea syndrome. The most intuitive feeling of the patient is that the contact part between the nasal mask and the skin is uncomfortable due to the stimulation of cold wind. Air leakage will also cause the pressure in the nasal mask to not reach the predetermined pressure and affect the treatment effect. An air leak is evidenced when the patient feels the skin around the mask cools. Air leakage will occur when the size of the nasal mask used is not appropriate, the tightness of the headband is not appropriate, and the force on the upper and lower headbands is not balanced. In addition, if the pressure measuring hole on the nasal mask is not closed, air leakage will also occur. At present, due to the slightly poor material quality of domestic masks and the high incidence of air leakage, we generally use imported nasal masks instead.
If the ventilator nasal mask is suitable for you, and the headband is properly tight, the chance of air leakage will be greatly reduced; but it does not mean that the tighter the headband, the more No air leakage, the cushion of the imported nasal mask has strong elasticity, as long as the elasticity is appropriate, it is generally not easy to leak air. The headband is too tight, sometimes just loosening the upper headband properly will solve the problem. Some patients have special facial shapes, and air leakage still occurs after these treatments. Some soft materials can be placed between the nasal mask and the skin. The method of dealing with air leakage of the ventilator is as follows: cut a thin and soft pad with an area slightly larger than the nasal mask, and cut a triangular hole in the middle so that the nose can pass through, so that the nasal mask and the face are more tightly contacted.
Second, how to choose to wear a non-invasive ventilator mask
1. How to use a non-invasive ventilator mask It’s not complicated, but it’s important to note that a ventilator will only achieve the best results if the mask fits properly and is comfortable to wear. Air leakage can affect the treatment effect, so it is very important to eliminate air leakage from the mask. Therefore, the mask needs to be repositioned and the headgear adjusted when the mask is leaking.
2. If you use a nasal mask, please avoid breathing with your mouth open during the treatment. Air leakage from the mouth can reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. If the mouth leak is severe, perhaps using a full face mask or chin bandage will do the trick. Please contact your doctor or provider for details.
3. If you are using a full face mask and you cannot find a comfortable way to wear it, please contact your doctor or equipment supplier. Different sizes and styles of masks may be suitable for you.
4. Wash your face before wearing the mask to remove facial oil, which will help to wear comfortably and prolong the life of the mask pad. Please do not wear the mask when it is still dry.
3. How to clean the ventilator mask
1. Divide the mask into small parts: forehead pad, mask pad, mask main spherical joint And exhalation valve (nasal mask), spherical universal joint and exhalation valve (full face mask), headgear.
2. Use mild detergent and warm water (about 30°C) to clean all parts of the mask. Carefully remove the grease formed by wearing on the various parts. When cleaning the exhalation valve, use a soft brush. Daily cleaning to remove other parts (forehead pads, mask pads, mask body, ball joints and tubing) except the headgear, and weekly cleaning of the headgear.
3. Rinse all parts with clean water, then place the mask and all parts in a dark place to air dry.
4. If any damaged parts are found, please replace them immediately.
5. After cleaning, just assemble the mask.
