The difference between GPS
navigation map and ordinary electronic map
In simple terms, GPS mobile navigation system not only includes GPS navigation electronic map, but also includes GPS navigation software, also known as GPS Navigation engine.
We are accustomed to always ask what kind of map a GPS is equipped with, which actually confuses the difference between the map and the software. The so-called map actually just refers to the data, and the software is actually a search engine. Maps provided by map manufacturers include geographic information and various points of interest data. How do these data reflect on the map? How can we make good use of such a huge data system? This is achieved with the help of software, which is the search engine mentioned earlier.
In fact, there are not many companies engaged in map surveying and mapping in China, but there are countless software companies that design engines. Some map manufacturers develop their own software, while others sell the data to software companies, so we may see a variety of software interfaces (this phenomenon is more obvious in the car’s front-end market).
Most hardware manufacturers produce ‘shells’ and sell them together with some kind of map and software, so most of what we see are out-of-the-box GPS navigators. And no matter what form the three parties are integrated in, what we care more about is service. GPS, as a special kind of IT product, besides its own quality, the map upgrade service is also crucial.
